A developer is drawing up proposals to build as many as 200 homes on 60 acres of farmland between Blackfield and Holbury.

Lynwood Farm - part of the "green lung" between the two villages - was owned by two brothers who had a large collection of vintage farm machinery.

Following their deaths, the vehicles were auctioned by Thimbleby and Shorland in 2018.

Now Genesis Town Planning, acting on behalf of Wates Developments, has asked New Forest District Council if any future application to redevelop the site would require an Environmental Impact Assessment.

A letter sent to the council says the proposed site comprises five fields and a collection of farm buildings, plus a bungalow.

The western boundary is made up of trees and hedgerows that also form the boundary of the New Forest National Park.

Wates Developments is proposing to build up to 200 homes, of which 70 - 35 per cent - would be affordable.

The "net zero carbon-ready" scheme will incorporate sustainable technology including rainwater harvesting, air source heat pumps and photo voltaic panels.

Other proposals include an access road and a pedestrian link to Rollestone Road using land currently currently occupied by the bungalow and the farm buildings.

Almost 19 hectares of open space would be provided, along with new footpaths throughout the site, "greenway corridors" and new native woodland, plus orchards and community allotments.

The letter to the council says: "At this stage, information on building heights and house sizes is not available.

"It is anticipated that building heights will be consistent with those in surrounding areas. These are a mix of single-storey bungalows, chalet bungalows and two-storey dwellings."

Meanwhile, another greenfield site off Rollestone Road could also disappear beneath bricks and mortar.

Development Matters Ltd is seeking consent to build nine houses on land beside Woodberry Day Nursery.

A design and access statement that accompanies the plan says: "The application proposes a low density collection of detached properties to ‘mirror’ the scale and massing of the properties to the opposite side of Rollestone Road.

"The houses are arranged to follow the new internal access road that is designed with a gentle organic curve to provide visual interest.

"The design concept is to create a harmonious visual connection with properties on the opposite side of Rollestone Road.

"We believe the scheme will create a strong visual connection to the existing built form. The overall design and proposed landscape zones will contribute to and enhance the character of the local area."
