SAINTS boss Russell Martin does not think their previous wins over West Brom mean anything heading into the playoff semi-final.
The St Mary's side completed a double over the Baggies this season, beating them 2-1 at home before producing a brilliant 2-0 win away.
The victory at the Hawthorns came off the back of losing their unbeaten run at Bristol City and was only the third time Carlos Corberan's side had lost at home this season.
Martin has actually won all six times he has faced West Brom as a manager across his stints at Southampton and Swansea City.
His charges have not lost to any of the teams qualified for the playoffs, doing the double over West Brom and Leeds United and drawing twice to Norwich City.
But Martin insisted those previous results will have no bearing on the playoffs. He told the Daily Echo: "I don't think it means anything.
"I think the playoffs is a completely different competition. I don't think we take that into account.
"Of course, we'll watch the two games we had against West Brom, see what the problems were, see their approach, what worked for them, maybe what they then bring to the next one.
"They're a good team with an excellent coach so it's going to be a tough game. Two tough games actually.
"So we need to be really ready but we'll work on us. We'll have a real awareness of them and keep working on us.
"I have loved the last week. We've actually had some time on the grass to work and train which we haven't had for six weeks.
"It's not an excuse but it's a fact of where we've been and why we were all so knackered.
"There's been an energy this week and a freshness. I hope we can continue that moving forward."
