RSPCA launches first aid kits for animals RSPCA launches first aid kits for animals

THE RSPCA has launched a first aid kit for animals, providing initial treatment for pets and suitable for cats, dogs and rabbits.

Vanessa Eden, fundraising assistant at the RSPCA Solent Branch, Stubbington Ark Animal Shelter in Fareham, said: “Even with the best precautions accidents can happen and it is crucial that every pet owner has the means of how to administer basic first aid to their pet.”

The kit costs £9.99 and can be bought from the shelter at 174-176 Ranvilles Lane, Fareham, PO14 3EZ.

Alternatively owners can apply for one through the post, with an extra cost for packaging and post.

I'm surprised that some pets are in a position to hurt themselves given the increasing number of pooches I see being pushed around in little pushchairs. But then they are toys these days, not animals.

We use ordinary first aid items for both of our dogs when they need it. They are probably cheaper than the RSPCA version. The hound in the photo looks very calm with a bandage on its leg. Either of mine would be chewing away at that until it had all been torn off!
It's still a good idea though but a shame it is the RSPCA that is promoting them. I expect they need the extra funds to enter into more politically motivated prosecutions.
My money goes to local charities - The Blue Cross usually. Much better value and no highly paid Chief Executives.

Huckit P - firstly, how can an animal welfare prosecution be politically motivated?! Any law breaker, no matter who they are should be prosecuted especially when they've knowingly broken a law!

Secondly, senior staff salaries do not differ that much at any large charity nor even at some medium-sized ones. They need to be able to attract the skills that a job of that level requires.

Lastly, its very easy for the likes of Blue Cross, Dogs Trust, Battersea etc to do the fairly straight-forward work they undertake. However the real animal welfare problems need the RSPCA and this is why they are so important. Sure, support local shelters but the RSPCA Inspectors deal with the animals in real need so need support too.
