An investigation is underway today after hundreds of shoppers and staff were forced to evacuate one of Hampshire’s biggest shopping centres after a chemical leak made people fall ill.
Shoppers at Sainsburys and neighbouring Marks and Spencer at Hedge End Retail Park were instructed to leave their trolleys and file out into the car park after people began complaining of runny eyes and breathing problems.
More than 62 people were treated at the scene by medics during the drama.
An investigation into the chemical leak, which came from a fridge, has been launched by Sainsburys.
