There are also continuing problems in the New Forest, particularly in areas alongside the River Avon.

Allbrook Road in Eastleigh has now re-opened, but motorists should check the situation in the morning.

Daily Echo: The car park of The White Swan at Mansbridge remains flooded.

During the weekend Mansbridge Road was reopened – despite initial fears it would stay shut for five days. However that situation could change depending on rainfall during the night and the state of the River Itchen.

Two schools have so far said they will be closed – St Bede’s in Winchester and Fordingbridge Junior School.

Highways teams have delivered many hundreds of sandbags to locations including Romsey over the weekend while standby teams have also been busy dealing with fallen trees, blocked gullies and other localised flooding problems.

A Hampshire County Council spokesman said the Emergency Planning Team has also been on standby, to support the emergency services and to assist those who have needed help with emergency situations as a consequence of the heavy rainfall.

Councillor Seán Woodward, Executive Member for Economy, Transport and Environment at Hampshire County Council said: “Our teams have been extremely busy once again this weekend, working non-stop with our partners and the emergency services, wherever they have been needed.

“While today's weather has thankfully been somewhat drier, localised showers can still be expected and further heavy rain is forecast in Hampshire on Tuesday morning.

“I would urge motorists to take extra care in these severe conditions and in particular to drive carefully through water at all times, and avoid swamping nearby properties and other road users. Drivers are also reminded to observe road closures and not to move signs, as they are clearly in place for safety reasons.”
