Conmen are preying on innocent victims of Hampshire’s floods, police have revealed.
Today officers have warned residents not to fall for tricksters who are using the floods to scam for cash.
The criminals are reported to be targeting drivers in the New Forest with a car towing scam.
Hampshire constabulary say that they have had reports of conmen removing the ‘road closed’ signs flood areas.
They are then offering to tow stricken motorists out of floodwater with a 4x4 vehicle for a charge of at least £30.
Now police are urging people to avoid driving through floodwater, to prevent them becoming a victim of this scam.
Anyone with any information is asked to call Hampshire police on 101.
