FIREFIGHTERS were called to a blaze at Winchester Cathedral last night.
Hampshire Fire and Rescue Service was called at 7.40pm to reports of a fire on the cathedral roof.
Nine firefighters went to the scene and discovered that the fire had been caused by a flood light being laid down on a plank of wood.
The roof suffered minor damage in the incident.
Winchester fire station crew manager Phil Foxton said: βI think they'd been having some sort of entertainment going on and a lighting rig was left on a wooden plank which started the fire.
βIt was a small fire and was only brief. It lasted only about half an hour, maybe 40 minutes.β
