RAIL services have returned to normal after a person died when they were hit by a train in Hampshire this morning.
There was major disruption to services to and from Southampton Central after the person was struck by a train at 6am.
The person was hit by the 5.38am Farnham to Portsmouth South West Trains service at Bedhampton railway station and pronounced dead at the scene by emergency services.
The incident caused delays of 40 minutes on South West Trains and First Great Western services between Southampton Central, Portsmouth Harbour and Chichester.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said the death was not being treated as suspicious.
He added: “We are seeking to identify the person and contact the next of kin. A file is being prepared for the coroner’s office.”
Witnesses should contact BTP on 0800 40 50 40 quoting log number 97 and today’s date.
