EASTLEIGH residents look set for another year with no increase in council tax from their local authority.

Cabinet members at Eastleigh Borough Council agreed to recommend the budget for 2014/2015, which will now go to full council tomorrow.

Members voted in favour of recommendations including a nought per cent rise in council tax and spending of £10.9m for 2014/2015 compared with an income of £10.4m.

This means the average Band D property’s borough council element of the tax for each household is £130.07, a reduction from £133.39 last year, which reflects the transfer of some services and facilities to Chandler’s Ford and Bishopstoke parish councils.

In July last year, the council announced it was freezing the amount of tax it charges residents for two years.

If fulfilled to 2016, this would mean five years of no increase.

Leader of the council Keith House had said this would mean a 12-year reduction in council tax in real terms.

Other spending plans in non-parish areas include £166,000 on open spaces, parks and recreation grounds, £44,000 on public toilets, £50,000 on cemeteries, £52,000 on children’s play areas and £7,500 on bus shelters.
