A LABOURER, said to hate the way he behaves when drunk, appeared in court on his 29th birthday for two alcohol-fuelled assaults when he attacked a stranger and a doorman.

Steven Jack and a friend had been ejected from Kelly’s nightclub following a confrontation with another group when he deliberately elbowed Shane Brown in the face as he walked past.

Prosecutor Siobhan Linsley said Jack, who was looking for a fight, then threw three punches at Mr Brown which missed.

He then got involved in a fight with another man in the original group, and punched and scratched doorman Lee Parker when he intervened to break it up.

He ran off but was pointed out by the doorman to police who arrested him.

Jack, of Palm Road, Coxford, admitted two charges of battery. He received a two-month suspended sentence, 12 months supervision and a 120 hour community work order.

He was also told to pay each of his victims £200 compensation as well as a victim's surcharge and costs totalling £110.

In mitigation at the city crown court, Richard Martin said Jack had been wound up by what had happened to his friend and lost control.

Quoting the probation report, Mr Martin said: “He hates the way he behaves when drunk but he is motivated to change.”
