Daily Echo: Mum sets her sights on marathon fundraiser Mum sets her sights on marathon fundraiser

A HAMPSHIRE mum who, six months ago, couldn’t run down her own street, has set her sights on a marathon in a bid to get Hampshire saving lives.

Hayley Stockford has made it her mission to run the London Marathon in April, with the aim of raising vital money for CRY – Cardiac Risk in the Young – as well as teaching people vital life-saving skills.

The 39-year-old, from Totton, decided to take on the challenge after seeing for herself the devastation caused by the death of young people as a result of heart conditions, through both her former job as a paramedic and having seen friends forced to deal with losing a loved one.

To help reach her £1,800 fundraising target, Hayley, a resuscitation officer for the NHS, is hosting a free event today at Totton Community Centre, where she will be teaching how to help save a life.

There will also be book stalls, a raffle and refreshments, with all proceeds going towards the charity.

Hayley said: “People really can make a difference and save a life by doing a couple of simple things. A little bit of knowledge and a massive amount of confidence can be the difference between life and death.”

The practical sessions will be held between 1.30pm and 3.30pm. To sponsor Hayley visit
