A FAMILY fled from a burning Hampshire home last night.

The blaze took hold in a downstairs room of a detached home in Carisbrooke Road, Gosport, shortly after 10.40pm.

Two pensioners and their three grown up grandchildren living there escaped unharmed before crews from Fareham and Gosport fire stations arrived.

Firefighters used two breathing apparatus and a hose reel to put out the flames which were contained to the back room.

It caused 20 per cent damage to the room and crews also spent 90 minutes using ventilation fans to clear the badly smoke logged room.

They put the blaze down to cardboard boxes being stored on-top of a wardrobe close to a wall light.
