AN elderly couple have died after a three-car pile-up, police have confirmed.

The couple from Hampshire were driving in a Vauxhall Meriva in Norfolk when the vehicle was involved in a collision with a Renault Scenic and a Ford Focus.

The female passenger, aged in her 70s, was taken to Addenbrooke's Hospital in Cambridgeshire while her husband, who was in his 80s, went to Norfolk and Norwich University Hospital but both died of their injuries.

Norfolk Police are appealing for witnesses to the crash, which happened at around 1.45pm on Friday on the A143 at Ellingham.

The coroner has been informed and an inquest will open in due course.
