A YOUTH killed on a Hampshire motocross track had come off his machine seconds before being hit by another bike.

Bradley Hooper, 16, of Farnham, Surrey, suffered severe injuries in a practice session for a race near Winchester.

He received immediate medical help and was flown by air ambulance to hospital but staff were unable to save him.

The crash happened at about 11.20am at Headbourne Worthy on Sunday.

Tony Child, director of Tonymoto, that operates the circuit, told the Daily Echo: “To my knowledge a rider crashed and the rider behind him landed on top of him.

"I believe he had stood up and then a boy came over the jump and hit him.

"This sort of accident can happen but it is very rare. Our thoughts are with the parents.”

The second rider, believed to be a 15-year old boy, also from Farnham, suffered serious but not life-threatening injuries. He is currently being treated in hospital.

Ashley Swaine, track manager, said: “This is the first time anything like this has ever happened.

“Being the track builder it has taken its toll on me quite badly. There was no fault on the track but it is quite tragic.

This is our first fatality and it hits hard.”

The Central Hampshire Coroner has been informed and a post-mortem was due to be held.

The 40-acre track, next to the A34, is around ten years old and has been operated by Tonymoto, based in Eastleigh.

A Facebook tribute page has been set up and yesterday evening within just 24 hours has more than 9,400 likes.

Steve Dixon from Bike It Yamaha, who organises the British Grand Prix at Matterley Basin near Winchester, said: “Such a tragedy and a huge loss for all the family of Brad, our condolences.”

He is planning a tribute at the forthcoming British GP.

Anyone who witnessed the incident, or captured footage of the incident or the bikes prior to the incident, is asked to call Sergeant Andy Lynch at Eastleigh police station by calling 101 and quoting Operation Alkanet.
