A SAILOR had to be rescued by lifeboat crews when his boat became marooned in sinking mud in a Hampshire harbour.

The man’s small vessel became marooned in Bomb Ketch Creek in Portsmouth Harbour at 1.15pm on Sunday.

Solent Lifeboat crews from Gosport and Fareham Inshore Rescue (GAFIRS) and the Coastguard Mud Rescue Team battled through the mud to reach his eight-foot tender and towed him into deeper water.

The man was unharmed and was later taken to Hardway Sailing Club in Gosport.
