SCORES of people visited a new-look convenience store to congratulate one of their sporting heroines.
The recently extended Welcome shop in Ashurst was opened by Eve Muirhead, who captained the Great Britain women’s curling team that won bronze at this year’s Winter Olympics.
The shop, in Lymington Road, is one of six Welcome shops run by Eve’s uncle, Hampshire businessman Richard Dance.
He said: “About 70 people turned up, many of whom were glued to their TVs during the curling and congratulated Eve on her team’s performance. There were lots of ‘well dones’ and ‘congratulations’.
“The store itself was very well received.
We had a lot of positive feedback about all the improvements that have been made.”
Proudly displaying her Olympic medal, Eve cut a ribbon to celebrate the start of trading following the five-month refit.
The Saints Foundation, Southampton Football Club’s charitable arm, was also there to pick up a £350 donation from the store.
