A WINCHESTER man broke his neck from a fall after suffering an epileptic fit, an inquest heard.

Noel Anthony Feeley, 51, was found face-down in the kitchen of his flat in Alresford Road by his mother Diane Grinyer on December 20 last year.

The inquest at Southampton Coroner’s Court heard how Mr Feeley and his mother were due to go Christmas shopping that day.

Mrs Grinyer told the inquest that her son’s epilepsy worsened at the age of 15 and his seizures increased after he lost his job two years ago.

She described how she entered his flat on the day of his death and tried to turn him over on the kitchen floor. Paramedics were called to his home but were unable to revive him, the inquest heard.

A post-mortem found that Mr Feeley died due to a spinal cord injury due to the fracture of the cervical vertebrae, following a likely epileptic seizure.

Central Hampshire coroner Grahame Short recorded a verdict of accidental death.
