COMMUTERS were delayed this evening when a broken-down train causes major delays on one of the South's major routes.

There were delays of an hour on CrossCountry services between Southampton Central and Birmingham New Street.

It followed a freight train breaking down between Reading and Didcot Parkway earlier.

The backlog is causing delays to both Cross Country and First Great Western services.

Normal services resumed by 10pm.

Hardly a major delay, unless coming from t'north.

In Reading get a train to Basingstoke then SWT to Southampton.

Bit off a non story.
