DRIVERS are facing delays after an accident on a major Hampshire road this morning.

The crash left a white Renault Megane on its roof in the central reservation of the A31 in the New Forest.

Motorists are being held up for at least 20 minutes by the smash on the eastbound carriageway between Picket Post and Stoney Cross.

One lane is closed in both directions as the emergency services are clearing a fuel leak from the road.

South Central Ambulance Service confirmed two patients were treated at the scene for minor injuries and taken to Southampton General Hospital as a precaution.

Two ambulances and a rapid response vehicle attended.

Queues of vehicles are stretching back more than three miles to Ringwood.

Meanwhile heavy traffic is expected in Southampton city centre today as thousands of people head to the Isle of Wight Festival and three cruise ships call at the port.

Aurora, Oriana and Adonia have all docked this morning.
