A HAMPSHIRE home is at the centre of a chemical drama this morning.

Emergency services were called to a house in Saxholm Way, Southampton, at 10.20am, after police received reports concerning the welfare of someone inside.

Exact details of what happened have not been revealed but when officers arrived they called Hampshire Fire and Rescue's HAZMAT, which deals with chemical substances, to the scene.

Witnesses have reported seeing a man being looked over by paramedics, but police confirmed that there have been no injuries.

Officers are currently still at the scene while the HAZMAT team ventilate the property.

It is not known what type of chemicals are involved.

A police spokesperson said: “We received a concern for welfare call at 10.20am. No injuries have been reported.”

Pauline Aaddham, a resident in Saxholm Way, said she saw four fire engines, but could not work out was going on.

She said:"I heard the sound of sirens and I went out to speak to a neighbour across the road and they didn't know what went on either."

She added that she saw four ambulances in the road and a police van.

Probably the drain cleaner / bleach combination? Happens every now and then but rather nasty when it does.

I made the mistake of doing that once. Only a tiny bit of bleach and some lime scale remover. Not a good combination!

This was reported by the "crime reporter" so maybe a bit more sinister than cleaning fluids?
