Firefighters will swap hoses for aprons as they attempt to cook the world’s biggest naan bread.

And they will do it with the help of a man named “Curry”.

The crew will try to cook the gigantic naan at Eastleigh Mela Festival on July 6.

Among those organising the record-breaking attempt is Hampshire Fire and Rescue Deputy Chief Officer Dave Curry.

He said: “I am delighted that we are taking part in this multicultural event.

“We hope to promote community integration and harmony by celebrating Eastleigh’s rich heritage and communities.”

The firefighters staged a trial run at their HQ in Leigh Road, Eastleigh, helped by chefs at the Badi Mirchi and Sanjha restaurants.

The naan will be 3m x 1.2m, if successful, which would be bigger than the current world record of 2.89m x 1m.

The festival will run from 11am to 6pm at Leigh Road Recreation Ground.
