POLICE are investigating an incident where a Hampshire pensioner was pressurised into handing over cash for gardening work that he didn’t ask two men to do.

Officers say the pair approached the 89-year-old man and persuaded him to pay for unnecessary work in his garden at Salisbury Lane in Over Wallop near Stockbridge around lunchtime last Thursday.

The pensioner was asked to hand over £550 by the men who told him they would cut his hedge for him and tried to get him to go to the bank and withdraw the cash, but he refused.

“The men were pushy and one of them began to cut the hedge without permission.

“The victim then paid them £150 and they left having carried out minimal work,” said a police spokesperson.

Both men are described as white and about 30 years old and of medium build. One of them had untidy short brown hair and the other was clean shaven with short brown hair.

Police believe the men had a Ford Transit dropside van. Anyone with details is asked to call PC Andrew White at Andover police station on 101.

When they're traced to a village green near you the charge should indeed be blackmail. Crown Court soonest and a proper sentence.

Extortion? Or blackmail? Make your mind up. Or maybe you don't know the difference. Maybe you're too busy making casual racist comments non-stop to actually learn anything.
