Ex Saints boss Nicola Cortese's home in Chilworth on market for £2.1m
Former Saints chief Nicola Cortese's six-bedroom house has been put up for sale - for a cool £2.1m.
The 5,100 sq ft property in Chilworth, built in 2009, is being marketed by Knight Frank in Winchester.
Mr Cortese, who earned more than £5m during his four-and-a-half-year tenure at Saints, including £1.9m in his last full season alone, bought the 0.76-acre property in 2010 and moved in with wife Alexandra and their two children.
The 45-year-old previously stayed in a £1.8m Chilworth mansion rented from Saints legend Francis Benali for nine months, but an argument over the lease led to a prolonged legal battle that saw the former left-back sue the club over unpaid rent and not properly maintaining the property.
The feud was eventually settled out of court last year.
Now after his departure from the club in January this year, it appears that Mr Cortese’s days on the city outskirts may also be up.
The house comes with six en-suite bathrooms, a dining room, orangery, terrace and five reception rooms described as “ideal for both informal family living and formal entertaining” by Knight Frank.
It has a designer kitchen and a gas-fired heating system providing under-floor heating, while electric gates and a video/intercom entry system keeps it secure.
There is also a utility room and office area with a bedroom above that could be used as staff quarters.
Mr Cortese enjoyed a reputation for getting good deals and that is set to continue if someone matches the asking price, which is over £300,000 more than he paid.
The Italian banker arrived at Saints in 2009 as part of the takeover by the late Markus Liebherr, whose intervention brought the club out of administration.
He was at the helm for Saints’ period of sustained success over the next five years, including its return to the Premier League, but he quit the club after a breakdown in his relationship with the Liebherr family.
