FOOTBALLING fun in the sun helped to break down barriers between police officers and young people in a Hampshire neighbourhood.
Portswood Safer Neighbourhoods police team hosted the Hampshire Constabulary Community Cup, which saw 150 youngsters showcase their skills on the football pitch.
150 youngsters had the chance to take part
Split into three different age groups, the knock-out tournament, sponsored by Radian, gave 19 teams the chance to enjoy a whole day of high-paced, competitive matches at Southampton Sports Centre.
There was also plenty to keep non-football fans entertained, including music from DJ PC Dave Houghton, magic from PSCO Steve Hull and dance moves from the team at Bustagroove, plus free refreshments from businesses on Portswood High Street.

PCSO Bob Stafford, who organised the event with PC Holly Knight and a team of volunteers, said: “It was a fantastic day which couldn’t have gone any better.
“Hopefully it has broken down the barriers between the police and the young people in the area.
“This is the second year we have done this and it just gets bigger and better, thanks to the support we get from the local community, so we hope to do it all again next year.”
