THERE were Klingons, wizards and sci fi royalty out in force as a popular fan convention took over a Southampton hotel.

The 22nd Sci-Fi Ball took place in the city’s Grand Harbour Hotel from Friday to Sunday with hundreds of science fiction enthusiasts donning costumes to enjoy the occasion.

The event raised money for the Teenage Cancer Trust, with previous events since 2009 raising more than £22,000 for the charity.

It was kicked off with an opening ceremony on Friday that featured appearances by several television stars, writers and artists, a video message from Stephen Fry, Kingsman star Taron Egerton and Sherlock actor Mark Gatiss, and even a wedding proposal from enthusiast Tim Jeanes to sweetheart Claire Webber.

As well as a chance to see life-sized Daleks and the bridge of the Enterprise, fans got to meet stars such as Star Trek: Enterprise actors Vaughn Armstrong, Dominic Keating and Connor Trinneer, to Doctor Who stars Annette Badland and Sabrina Bartlett, who will also appear in Game of Thrones, writer James Moran, author Robert Rankin and illustrator Lee Bradl
