A NIGHTCLUB and shops could be torn down and replaced with 25 new homes.

A developer has filed plans with the city council to tear down the buildings at 94-97 St Marys Road.

The site had been occupied by the Cloud Nine nightclub, which is now listed as closed and had previously been Kaos.

There are also shops and flats at the site, which would all be demolished to make way for the new studio apartments and a new shop in a part three, part four-storey building.

In his application, developer Mr Poswall said: "The proposal is for the demolition of the exiting shops, flats and night club and for the construction of 25 studios along with a shop.

"The proposal is market led and suited to the nature and demographic of the area.

"It is clear from the recent large student schemes in the area, this council recognises the area to be of a young demographic.

"This proposal is not to be restricted to students; it will be open for rental and purchase to young professionals who seek a low carbon lifestyle.

"They are started rental / sale units. The location of the site, on the road and next to student blocks and shops/ services dictates the nature of accommodation, as does the demand."

A decision from city council planners on the application is due by November 9.
