THEY have volunteered for a combined total of 80 years, given thousands of hours and helped the charity raise crucial funds.

Now for the first time, eight volunteers have been recognised for their hard work for the charity Revitalise.

The presentation was held at Netley Waterside House, celebrating volunteers who have pledged their time to one of Revitalise’s 13 charity shops across Southampton and surrounding area.

The awards were presented by mayor of Eastleigh, Cllr Desmond Scott, who was visiting the rest bite facility for the first time with his wife, mayoress Ve Scott.

He said: “Netley is the jewel in the crown of Eastleigh. It is great to be in the company of such generous people.

“We are so grateful to them and it is an honour to be here in their company.”

The shops are crucial to the organisation as they contribute the largest single income to the charity that has been providing breaks for people with disabilities and their careers for almost 50 years.

Andrew Pallister, Revitalise head of retail, said: “Huge congratulations to each of our wonderful volunteers, you are all incredibly deserving of your awards.

"For so many years you have given your time and dedication to our charity, and it’s only right that we return our gratitude by celebrating your commitment."

Revitalise has charity shops in Hedge End, Bursledon, Thornhill Park, Totton, West End and Woolston, as well as in the wider Hampshire area.
One of the people awarded was Bursledon store’s volunteer Ricky Smith, who suffered a stroke nine years ago.

The 57-year-old was introduced to the charity through a stroke support group near his home in Eastleigh.

After his stroke, Ricky was unable to return to work at the then Vosper Thornycroft in Woolston and has been volunteering for six years.

He said: “It makes me happy and it gives me people to talk to. I have made some good friends whilst volunteering.”

Also honoured were awarded were Joanna Ethridge, Brenda Field, Mavis Flloyd and Gill Saville.

Jan Bailey, Heather Williams and Sue Pink were also commended with a badge for 10 years of volunteer work.

Mrs Bailey, 64, said: “I just love volunteering and would recommend it to anyone. Without volunteers, charities like this would not be able to exist. It is a privilege to be involved with Revitalise.”
