RESIDENTS had to flee from their burning home in the early hours.

Emergency services were called to a house on fire in the early morning in Southampton yesterday.

Those inside the property had to escape and call the fire service after finding their building on fire.

Having been called at 4.13am, crews raced to the scene on Southcliff Road, in Inner Avenue, Southampton.

An end-terraced property was found alight, with four stations sending engines to combat the blaze.

All the residents of the home in multiple occupation were able to scramble out of the smoke-logged house.

A fire service spokesman said last night: “There was a fear of people still inside, but when we got there we were able to establish everyone was out and accounted for.”

Hightown, Eastleigh, Redbridge and St Mary’s all responded to the call with a ground floor room ravaged after the flames were put out.

The fire was so intense it needed eight firefighters in breathing apparatus to tackle the flames with two hoses and two high-pressure jets.

Crews remained on the scene damping down and had to remove parts of the ceiling after the structure became unsafe.

No one was injured in the fire and the cause of the blaze currently remains unknown. It is being investigated by the police and fire service.

None of the householders were available for comment.
