HAMPSHIRE actress Sarah Parish was among a host of celebrity phone-hacking victims targeted by a national newspaper.

The actress was named among a group of high-profile celebrities receiving settlements for phone hacking damages claims.

Known for many television roles including roles in Cutting It, Atlantis and Mistresses, Ms Parish is among a list of 29 people who whose legal actions against the publisher of the Daily Mirror were brought to an end at London’s High Court.

It comes as Ms Parish is today due to launch a flagship charity bal ltoday, (Saturday) as part of a huge fundraising drive to raise £2million to transform children’s health services in the county for generations to come.

The hacking victims list included television presenter and former ITV Meridian news reader Natasha Kaplinsky Steve McFadden, who plays Phil Mitchell in EastEnders and comedian Les Dennis. who who All raised claims against Mirror Group Newspapers (MGN).

In all except one case – that of actress Jayne Walton, who received £40,000 damages and her legal costs – the details of the agreements were not made public at the hearing before Mr Justice Mann.

In each instance, solicitor Kim Waite offered MGN’s apologies for the damage and distress.

Yesterday Ms Parish, 47, did not want to speak following the hearing.

Many of the claimants were friends or family of the famous people targeted by journalists and included: David Beckham’s father, Ted; singer Charlotte Church’s ex-boyfriend Steven Johnson; his father – also called Steven Johnson – and his mother Yvonne Kearle.

The list included former real estate agency director Sandy Armstrong; singer-songwriter Samuel Preston and his ex-fiancée Camille Aznar; Lord Archer’s son, James Archer, and; Archer family friend Broosk Saib Others were: TV personality Calum Best, the son of footballer George Best; TV presenter Jeff Brazier; footballer Sol Campbell; Simon Clegg, former chief executive of the British Olympic Association; Big Brother contestant Victor Ebuwa; James Gardner, a friend of footballer Paul Gascoigne; retired boxer Audley Harrison; model Lady Victoria Hervey, and; George Best’s agent Philip Hughes.

Ms Parish and her husband James Murray are hosting the Odd Ball tonight at the Hilton Ageas Bowl in Southampton.

It is part of their #2millionsteps campaign to create a new £4.8million children’s accident and emergency unit and trauma unit in Southampton.

As previously reported in the Daily Echo, #2millionsteps is the sequel to the Say Yes George campaign – an Echo-backed initiative – which resulted in former chancellor George Osborne agreeing to match-fund cash locally with £2million from the Treasury.

University Southampton Hospital (UHS) NHS Foundation Trust has already set aside £800,000 for the scheme and therefore the charity took on the challenge of raising the remaining £2million.

The new children’s A&E department, hoped to one day be part of a complete multi-million-pound children’s hospital, has been a long-term dream of the couple, to boost the world-class care already being offered by Southampton General Hospital.

The new unit would provide specially tailored care for young people in a ‘child friendly’ environment – instead of them having to use adult A&E services.

Their fundraising ball will held tonight the the Hilton Ageas Bowl.
