THEY dressed up, got fit and broke records.

Hundreds of schools, businesses and organisations across Hampshire have been getting sporty and raising thousands for charity as part of Sport Relief.

They helped raise a record of more than £51m for the charity following last night's star-studded telethon.

Students at Bitterne Park School attempted to smash the world record for the most people to take part in a human wheelbarrow walk.

Teachers at The Arnewood School in New Milton started the day with a run before the school competed in sponsored volleyball and football tournaments and hosted a cake sale.

Meanwhile, students from Southampton Solent University joined pupils at Springhill Catholic Primary School for a day of sports on their new multi-use games area.

And Team GB wheelchair basketball playerJoy Haizelden took time out from training to visit Botley C of E Primary School where youngsters had worn their best red outfits or dressed up as superheroes.

Swimathons took place at pools across Hampshire and members the British sailing team and Volvo sailing team joined students from The Gregg School in a dinghy race at The Quays swimming pool.

Employees at IT firm Cobweb Solutions in Fareham donned extreme sports gear, took on their colleagues in a pool tournament and cycled the equivalent distance from Southampton to London on static bikes, while staff at insurance firm Business Choice Direct in Southampton got their legs waxed.

Workers at the Bitterne and Bitterne West Sainsbury’s stores got fit on static rowing machines, while others took part in a cycling event and the 3rd Itchen Scouts packed shopping bags for customers.

Stylists at Cream Hair Salon in Bedford Place, Southampton, held a charity cake sale.

Tomorrow the streets and parks of Southampton will be filled with thousands of runners when the Sport Relief Mile takes over the city centre.

The event starts at 11am in Guildhall Square.
