SHE was Southampton’s youngest ever female councillor when she was elected in May 2012.

But Labour city councillor Georgie Laming has now stood down after less than two years in her post.

The former Solent University student, who was 19 when she won her seat, has left her Millbrook ward with immediate effect.

Labour council leader Simon Letts said she had been appointed to a new job as a campaign coordinator at the National Union of Students in London.

He said there was “nothing” in rumours that she had stood down after disagreeing with party chiefs over a review of councillor numbers.

He said: “It is good to have young talent involved in councils because most are dominated by people over the age of 50. She played a big part in the Southampton Music Festival.”

The seat will be contested at the upcoming local elections on May 22. Miss Laming was unavailable for comment last night.
