Southampton's Labour councillor Georgie Laming steps down

Georgie Laming

Georgie Laming

First published in News

SHE was Southampton’s youngest ever female councillor when she was elected in May 2012.

But Labour city councillor Georgie Laming has now stood down after less than two years in her post.

The former Solent University student, who was 19 when she won her seat, has left her Millbrook ward with immediate effect.

Labour council leader Simon Letts said she had been appointed to a new job as a campaign coordinator at the National Union of Students in London.

He said there was “nothing” in rumours that she had stood down after disagreeing with party chiefs over a review of councillor numbers.

He said: “It is good to have young talent involved in councils because most are dominated by people over the age of 50. She played a big part in the Southampton Music Festival.”

The seat will be contested at the upcoming local elections on May 22. Miss Laming was unavailable for comment last night.

.. oh dear.
If only you and your Trotskyist clique were in a position to have councillor in-fighting, the blood would really flow. Need I remind you of the Judean People's Front and the Judean Popular People's Front
Alas for you, it will NEVER happen as your lot are totally unelectable.
Your envy at the successes of the mainstream parties is most unbecoming.

Yes, so what? There's more to every story that gets printed!

Say something of relevance or take your silly, childish posts elsewhere.

p.s. How are the Socialists doing in France?

Having spent 35 years (mostly in Labour and some in NuLabour) and leaving in 1996 to stay a socialist I have plenty of knowledge about how this party operates.

If not all most of the leading lights of this political party have always been allergic to telling the truth.

Very basic principle of socialism 'honesty' started disappearing within Labour towards the end of 70s when many young Liberals and few Tories started joining Labour to exploit its good name for building their own well paid political career. In Southampton that clique dominates.

As former member of Labour, Southy also has plenty of inside knowledge, so I won't be surprised if there is plenty of truth in what he suspects.

But that is hardly matter of concern for likes of me, because it is the internal matter or problem of Thatcherised NuLabour.

In fairness to now ex councillor Georgie Laming, she should be respected for trying to start serving the society as a young person. Unlike most others in her age group.

Whatever the shade of young Laming's politics may be, the society needs more young people to enter public life like her. I may not share her political views but admired her and before her some young Tories who got elected as councillors in Southampton. Because that was good for democracy which otherwise is dominated by mostly old hogs, mostly without faintest idea how our young generation feels.

Perhaps Southy is not a political donkey then. I myself have voted Tory, Lib Dem and more recently UKIP. Although I have never been dim enough to go for TUSC.

Georgie, has got a new job, instead of working locally she will now be working in London and chasing her own personal career, unfortunately the career path she wants to follow is not available locally , the one she went to University and got her degree for so she's going where the work is as many have before her and many more will after.

Good luck Georgie, when you work hard success will follow, remember her name and where she started, it won't be the last you hear of this star.

.. er, not quite. southy was part of the entryist Militant Tendency, a Trotskyist attempt to take over the Labour Party in the 1970's and 1980's. Kinnock, et al, kicked them out. So technically he probably was a Labour party member, but joined only with bad intentions.

Paul Holes left to do another job & so did one other personally I hope her well as now we can see Southy's party putting it's money where it's mouth is & winning this ward from Labour.
Southy is like the weather, changes every day. Wasn't he a supporter of Labour? Please correct me if i'm wrong.
Like Paramjit I have Socialist values, my support to the Labour Party stop when they turned it into another 100% Tory Capitalist party,

Perhaps Southy is not a political donkey then. I myself have voted Tory, Lib Dem and more recently UKIP. Although I have never been dim enough to go for TUSC.
so as I went with my father & cheered Harold Wilson (I was 18) I then followed Benn & voted NO in the Common market referendum but now vote Tory how does this differ from you or Southy ? yet you call me a Tory Donkey?

So let me get this straight:

Someone's called you out on making endless predictions that never come to light, and your response is to say "I told you of a thing that would happen and it happened"? You don't think it might be worth actually mentioning what that thing was, perhaps? It doesn't occur to you that proving something involves more than just saying you were right? Good grief, how do you survive everyday life with this sort of utterly scoobied thinking?

The word sounds better as Arsehole but I guess a ex copper with the elusion of grandeur & self importance would rather come on here make out how intelligent they think they are & call names but I have always supported the police but I met an ex copper up at Lordshill at the place (OAP's) that the Tories threatened to shut.
I was only delivering catalogues & this idiot came out saying he was ex copper & he'd get his friends in the force to sort me out that wouldn't have been you would it?
I'm ashamed to think a Party like UKIP has allowed people like you stand for them when it comes down to it I'd rather vote for Southy than vote for a low life like you.

Any working class person supporting the anti social old Etonians has to be an ****.[/p]
what a PIG or FUZZ I'm pro police but ex officers some time think they can do what they want & they can't. I've already phoned UKIP head office to complain about you so I hope others follow suit.[/p]
The three letter word censored out was a form of donkey, not a backside. Both would however fit you.[/p]
I'm ashamed to think a Party like UKIP has allowed people like you stand for them when it comes down to it I'd rather vote for Southy than vote for a low life like you.[/p]
No it would not be me and I shall not be responding to any more of your made up, idiot posts.
