Owen Franklyn from Southampton given suspended sentence for attack on girlfriend

Daily Echo: Southampton Crown Court Southampton Crown Court

AN engineer has received a suspended sentence for attacking his girlfriend despite her not supporting the prosecution.

Recorder Alistair Malcolm QC read a letter underlining her stance when Owen Franklyn appeared for sentence at Southampton Crown Court for battery and smashing her mobile and iPhones.

Prosecutor Gavin Sumpter described how Franklyn, 22, of Gatwick Close, Lordshill, Southampton, blamed his girlfriend when children started throwing stones at the window of his grandmother’s flat.

He then pushed his girlfriend on to the bed and threatened to harm himself with a knife in front of her and his grandmother.

Echo, how poor is that story? Bit more meat on the bone needed, slow news day?

Why did she have more than one phone? Bit more to this story I reckon.

Yes! There's no reason for anyone two own more than one phone, so the filthy strumpet was obviously asking for it!

Good grief, this is a new low. Someone dares to own more than one phone, this immediately arouses suspicion.

One phone could be a work's mobile in case of call-out. I work for the NHS, and most of my colleagues have 2 phones; a work's mobile and their personal one.
Also, if she is a strumpet the are you saying she'd deserve to be attacked? Domestic violence is a cancer in our society. There's no excuse for it.

So what if she plays the trumpet! What's that got to do with anything?

A "filthy strumpet" asks to be pushed to the floor, and have her boyfriend threaten to harm himself to project and deflect attention from his vile actions.

The story is fine, no more meat needed. Better calibre of comments would be useful though. Victim blaming galore.

Two phones makes a woman a criminal mastermind, and justifies violence? You are all vile.

Agreed. 2 phones could just mean that 1 of the phones is from her work as she could be on call. As my comment said, domestic abuse is a cancer of our society and there is no excuse; strumpet or not.
