HUNDREDS of cups of tea have been drunk and delicious cakes devoured to raise thousands of pounds for a new haven for cancer sufferers in Hampshire.

The Haven in Wessex has been amazed by Hampshire supporters’ fundraising since announcing plans to open a new facility in Titchfield for those battling breast cancer.

Several tea parties have raised more than £28,000 for the new Haven, due to open next year.

The new centre will offer free specialist care for both women and men at any point of their breast cancer journey, as well as complementary therapies and nutritional advice.

As previously reported the charity needs to raise £1.7m to refurbish and run the building in The Square.

Manager Lucy Cowie said: “This wonderful community event is essential to the Haven in Wessex Appeal as we now need to refurbish the house in Titchfield and put in place two years’ funding so that we can open the centre and start supporting breast cancer sufferers, their friends and family.”
