A HAMPSHIRE bus company has vowed to keep serving a Southampton estate despite one of the buses being attacked by vandals.

A Velvet S1 bus travelling through Lordshill Way had a window shattered after vandals hurled an object through the window which is believed to be brick.

It was fortunate that nobody was on board the single decker which was in service at the time, when the attack happened at 4.10pm on April 28.

The latest attack comes three months after a spate of incidents in Southampton, which saw children as young as seven launch attacks on First buses.

Bosses at Velvet Bus based in Eastleigh were quick to tell customers through social network Twitter about the attack and the bus was taken in for repairs.

‘We are |committed to serving the area’ Velvet Bus Managing Director Phil Stockley, said: “It is a bus service which is useful for many people as it is used by a lot of elderly and less mobile passengers.

“We are committed to serving the area despite this incident which we are treating as an isolated case.”

“The driver was a little shaken up by the attack. It is just fortunate that nobody was on board at the time.”

It was the first time a Velvet Bus has been attacked for a year. The last attack happened in Chandler’s Ford in 2013, In February the S1 bus was reinstated after a campaign by hundreds of residents in Lordshill signed a petition.

Coxford councillor Don Thomas, said: “After local residents worked so hard to get the bus service reinstated it is sad to see this sort of violence against buses has raised its ugly head.”
