THERE’S no doubt who would be the star of the launch party... dahling.

An alumni association is being revamped at a Hampshire secondary school with more than a few famous faces.

See if you can spot one of them in this 1998 photo of the class from Perins School in Alresford near Winchester. A clue: she has changed a bit, which is not surprising as she was only around 13 or 14 years of age at the time.

The school uniform certainly complies with all the rules so it may be a surprise to learn that she is now known for her edgy look, messy fringes and plimsolls with everything.

Daily Echo:

She is almost certainly the first former Perins pupil to have a handbag named after her by Mulberry.

Front row fourth from the left in class 9D2 is fashionista Alexa Chung, TV presenter, contributing editor at British Vogue and ex-girlfriend of Alex Turner, lead singer of the Arctic Monkeys.

Alexa went on to Peter Symonds College in Winchester but never completed her A-levels as she was spotted by a model agency at The Clothes Show event in Birmingham and whisked away to catwalk fame and fortune.

The impressive alumni list from Perins School doesn’t just stop at fashion icons.

Former pupils also include stand-up TV comedian Russell Howard, 1980s Formula 1 racing driver Derek Warwick, TV presenter Ben Southall and West End actress Gina Beck.

Daily Echo:

A school spokesman said it was a mystery that there were so many alumni performers aged around 30.

But the school was keen to tap into all the talents of former pupils. “We would like to go beyond celebrity. Doing well in life is more than about being a celebrity. There are other careers that people are more likely to succeed in; local businessmen or academics. We would like to hear from them.”

Headteacher Janice Bernard said: “We would like to re-establish relationships with our alumni to further develop Perins School’s role in the local community and create a useful network for our ex-students.”
