HIS battle bus may have broken down but Green Party MEP Keith Taylor still managed to make it to Southampton yesterday.

He was appearing alongside the party’s eight city council candidates at Southampton Central station, which saw them speak to commuters and residents.

Mr Taylor, who is standing for re-election on Thursday, May 22, was due to make the trip to Southampton on his party’s eco-bus, but had to arrange alternative transport after it broke down on the M3 in Oxfordshire on Monday.

At the event at the station, they spoke to commuters about their plans for the country’s railway system and their own response to austerity.

Joe Cox, party candidate for Bargate, said: “We want the railways to come back into public ownership because shareholders don’t need to make dividends when public transport is already overpriced.”
