FOR ten years it has seen boats take to the water for an annual fundraising extravaganza – and this year is set to be even bigger and better.

Spectators will be cheering on from dry land as the Hamble River Raid takes place tomorrow, with a series of six-mile races between Hamble Quay and Bursledon’s Jolly Sailor pub.

Rowing vessels will travel from far afield to compete in the event, which organisers say has become one of the Solent’s leading fixed seat rowing competitions and a major national event.

More than 50 boats are expected, surpassing last year’s contest when a record 33 vessels took part.

On the shoreline there will be plenty to entertain the crowds with a hog roast and refreshment bar run by Hamble Sea Scouts.

Registration closes at noon and the first race starts at 1pm.

All proceeds from the day will go to local charities. Visit hambleriverraid.com.
