THE future of the Eastpoint Centre remains in the balance.

Months have passed since the charity of the same name closed the Thornhill-based community centre and went into administration but there is still no sign of any new tenant moving in.

Landlords Plus You Limited (PYL) took control of the £10.5m building in March after it shut in January amid crippling debts of £150,000.

PYL community co-ordinator Mike Allot said there had been little change in the situation since the charity took back the lease.

Speaking at a Thornhill Community Voices meeting, he said: “There is nothing to report on Eastpoint. The board is still working towards a plan and solution and we will continue to do so. It is a big building and there are lots of things going on but this situation fell into our laps in January unexpectedly.”

Twenty-three Eastpoint Centre staff lost their jobs when it closed on January 22 after it was deemed no longer financially viable to keep open.
