IT promises to be one of the best Copythorne Carnivals yet.

Officials are putting the finishing touches to Saturday and Sunday’s Copythorne Carnival extravaganza. Hampshire’s Scouting ambassador James Ketchell, who was the first and only person to row the Atlantic, cycle around the world and climb Mount Everest, will crown carnival queen Megan Wilton and the two princesses Alexandra Marsh and Emilia Thomlinson on Saturday afternoon shortly after he opens the event, which is organised by the 2nd New Forest North Stanley’s Own Scout Group.

This year’s carnival – which starts at 5pm – has the theme ‘high days and holidays’. Entertainment through the afternoon includes circus tricks, cart races and a marching band display.

In the evening there will be a Family Jamboree and hog roast starting at 7pm. Celebrations continue on Sunday with a steam and vintage rally at the village Scouts HQ in Romsey Road. This starts at 11am and will include hundreds of exhibits ranging from steam engines to old cars and motorbikes, buses and countryside crafts.
