COUNCILLORS in Alresford have decided to appoint a new market town manager.
Members of New Alresford Town Council approved the position for a person to work one day per week at a cost of £3,630 to the council.
It is understood they will work with the existing team set-up to support Bishop’s Waltham, Denmead and Wickham.
Chairwoman, Lis Griffiths, said: “In some months of the year we already have events, such as the Watercress Festival, Music Festival and the visit of Father Christmas, and so the idea behind the role is to have someone who can co-ordinate and promote a range of fun events throughout the year to bring residents into the town and enhance our community.
“We don’t have anyone with the time to co-ordinate between the businesses and residents to bring events to fruition – we are full of ideas, just lacking in time!”
It is hoped that a single person promoting the town’s events will help to boost tourism.
