IT is clearly a competition they excel at.

For the second year in a row pupils and staff at Glenfield Infant School are celebrating scooping £500 in the Daily Echo-backed Shop for Schools competition.

Staff at the Rossington Way school said they were ‘delighted’ at news that they had once again triumphed in the promotion that was run in conjunction with The Marlands shopping centre in Southampton.

They can now spend the cash on equipment for pupils at the school.

Co-headteacher Joanne Dorricott said: “Winning it once was fantastic, but to do it two years in a row is just marvellous.

“A big thank-you to our school community for supporting Glenfield, we could not have done it without them.

“I am sure the children will have plenty of ideas about how best we can use the prize money.”

There was also good news for the runner-up school Sholing Junior which will receive £150, just ahead of the nearby Sholing Infant School which will receive a cheque for £50 pounds for coming third.

Shoppers were urged to support their local school each time they shopped at The Marlands centre, a popular shopping hub full of high street stores and independent retailers all spread over two floors with a range of cafes for families to relax in.

Every pound spent was transferred into a point which could be allocated to a school of the shopper’s choice.
