PROUD pupils showed off their new school to children’s authors and dignitaries.

Youngsters gathered for a celebration day at the newly developed Wordsworth Primary School in Shirley, Southampton.

The former infants school has undergone a £7.2m upgrade, enabling it to accommodate four new year groups to meet growing demand for places.

Authors Mini Grey and Rod Campbell attended for a grand opening in front of some of the school's 300 pupils and their families.

Guests included the city mayor Cllr Sue Blatchford, and there were performances from cheerleaders Liberty Pride and footballers Team Spirit, plus arts and crafts activities and a balloon release.
