FOUR companies have already expressed interest in the multi-million-pound redevelopment of a popular leisure centre.

Eastleigh Borough Council has had approaches from several national and international companies with interest in taking on the building of the new Fleming Park Leisure Centre, a meeting heard.

The state-of-the-art facility, in Passfield Avenue, will replace the current one built in the 1970s.

Council plans for the new building include larger swimming pools, expanded gym facilities, an improved restaurant and more health and beauty facilities.

Council leader Keith House told councillors at a meeting of the full council that progress was on track for the centre, which will be built alongside the present building which will then be demolished, to open for the Rio Olympic Games in two years time.
