Detectives are continuing investigations into the death of a five-year-old boy who suffered severe burns in a horrific car fire.

Tommy Sheldon from Southampton, died in hospital on Monday after being badly burned two weeks ago, despite being rescued from the car by two passers-by.

Officers have not made any arrests but admit that the probe will take a significant amount of time.

Tommy’s mother, 37, and his sister, six, are still in hospital suffering from “serious injuries”.

The young boy was pulled from the Ford Fiesta in Merdon Castle Lane, Hursley, by Alan Beusmans and his son William, who stumbled upon the scene on August 11.

Officers are now treating the incident as a murder inquiry.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Hampshire Major Investigation Team, quoting operation Ursula, on 101.
