A borough councillor is to stand down at the upcoming elections to run for Parliament.
Cllr David Goodall has been on Eastleigh Borough Council since 2002, representing West End South, but confirmed that he is not to contest his seat in May next year.
He hopes to be selected as the Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for the Isle of Wight, having unsuccessfully contested the Southampton Itchen seat at the past two general elections.
Cllr Goodall, 52, who will not contest his seat on West End Parish Council either, would have been up for borough and parish re-election at the upcoming elections.
