A MAN is fighting for life in hospital after a late night city assault.
The 38-year-old was rushed to Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham following the attack, which happened in Fratton, Portsmouth.
Police have not revealed exactly where the incident happened but St Mary's Road from Woodlands Street, Fratton Road from Lake Road to Church Road and parts of Kingston Road and Lake Road are all closed while officers investigate.
A Hampshire Constabulary statement says: "The victim is currently in a life threatening condition at the Queen Alexandra Hospital in Cosham.
"We'd like to apologise for the inconvenience and thank people for their understanding while we carry out our investigation work. We will update you once the roads are re-opened."
