Dani Osvaldo scored his first goal for Juventus last night, following his loan move from Saints.

The striker netted in the 15th minute of the Italian side’s 2-0 win over Turkish club Trabzonspor, in the Europa League.

Saints’ record signing Osvaldo was making his first start for Juve, after leaving St Mary’s on transfer deadline day.

The 28-year-old was moved on after a training ground incident in which he allegedly headbutted his teammate, José Fonte.

Speaking after the first-leg match in Turin, the Saints record signing said: “It’s been great mostly because of the result, but I’m obviously also pleased with the goal.”

The Italian international scored after pouncing on a loose ball to slot home.

“Making the right movements is part of my playing style, I’m not one to wait for the ball to come my way,” he said.

Osvaldo was partnered with former Manchester United and Manchester City frontman Carlos Tevez for the match.

“It’s easy to work alongside Tevez,” he said. “He’s a phenomenal player, so an understanding with him would no doubt come naturally to anyone.

“Besides Tevez, I also feel comfortable with the team as a whole. I’m happy because I think I’ve adapted quite well to playing with them right from the start.”

Juventus hold an option to purchase Osvaldo permanently at the end of the season, for a fee of about £15.6m, payable over three years.

The striker is hoping to impress so that the Serie A club activate the clause. However, he also wants to do well in order to secure a place in Italy’s squad for this summer’s World Cup.

“I really hope I’ll be there, it’s one of my aims this season, so I’ll try my very best,” he said.
