Shaw call no shock to Lallana

Daily Echo: Luke Shaw training with England Luke Shaw training with England

Adam Lallana insists he was not at all surprised to see Saints team-mate Luke Shaw named in the England squad for Wednesday's friendly against Denmark.

The 18-year-old Shaw is in line to be handed his first cap as Roy Hodgson looks to finalise plans for who will make his 23-man World Cup squad.

The Saints left-back has enjoyed a good season to date and Lallana has backed Shaw to take to international football with similar ease.

"I'm not surprised at all," he said when asked about Shaw's involvement.

"He has been an outstanding for us all season. He looks like a seasoned pro and it was no surprise to see he was included in the squad.

"There are two outstanding players ahead of him [Ashley Cole and Leighton Baines] but he will keep his feet on the ground.

"He knows he is going to learn off them and if he watches them closely in training he knows it is going to do him good."

Lallana and Shaw are joined in the 30-man squad by Saints team-mates Rickie Lambert and Jay Rodriguez as the south coast club have four players in the senior England squad for the first time.

Lambert was the first of the quartet to break into Hodgson's squad and Lallana revealed the striker's inclusion gave Southampton's other English talent renewed hope of making the grade.

"Seeing Rickie being involved gave everyone an extra 10 per cent of belief," he said.

"We have had a good season at Southampton, been performing well on a consistent basis and we have all been helping each other.

"It is brilliant, it proves how far the club has come and to have four lads representing the country this week is fantastic."

All very interesting ! I hope outr boys are picked and shine !

But on another topic that could affect the top of the league .. the Russians invasion of Crimea means that the west will have to "introduce sanctions" as we will certainly not front up on a miltary basis. This is usually a series of financial limtations on trade, currency flows and freezing of bank accounts and international trading.

So where doies that leave Chelsea? If the Russian owners assets are frozen in the UK how will the club function and continue trading?. It is undoubtedly a Russian owned asset and must surely be treated like any other.

They will therefore have to suspend all commercial operations, none of their staff would be paid and they would presumably not be in a position to complete their season, tus invoking immediate disqualification.

Can the worldly wise explain if this will happen or is there some get out clause that I am overlooking.

And on another subject don't forget that SKY sports 1 transforms itself into the Comedy channel tonight at 7.30. I'm expecting Barker's pre match team talk to go something like this:-
"Now then lads, as you and the fans are aware we are already known as the laughing stock of the south. This game is being shown on national TV and though SKY expect the viewing figures to be very low we don't want to end the evening being known as the laughing stock of Britain. This lot we are playing are the highest scorers in the league and we have the worst defence. So tonight I'm pulling all the forwards back into our own half to defend. After all they can't score anyway so nothing to lose there. I'm expecting 100% effort and we really need to restrict them to less than 10. Now get out there and try to pass to one of your own side occasionally. Woof woof.

We have done well this Season to be in the TOP HALF of the table. The next stage is to further improve to be like Everton.

WE DO NEED TO SELL LUKE. We get plenty of money from Sky etc for being in the Premiership we should use this to buy more players as our Championship Players leave in the Summer.

FANCY A LAUGH ON SKY SPORTS 1 - C'mon Chesterfield !'

WE FIGHT FOR THE WIN AGAINST PALACE.

Can't believe a team top of the league keep giving the ball away so much against cr@p opposition. I suppose it reflects the rubbish standard of football down in the bargain basement.

Hmm. Lauging stock you say?

Sunderland 1 Southampton 0 out of the fa cup again

West Ham 3 Southampton 1

Southampton 0 Liverpool 3

Thats one goal scored and 7 conceded. This a team that holds so many of our England stars!! :-0 Out of the cup and no points picked up in the league

Scunthorpe 5 Portsmouth 1

Portsmouth 1 Accrington Stanley 0

Chesterfield 0 Portsmouth 0

Ok so 5 conceded and 2 scored. This a team that has been struggling somewhat in League 2. We can't really compare teams of course but maybe you should be a little more concerned about saints. Keeping your players will be very difficult if they shine in Brazil. Keeping your manager???? Your bubble could well and truelly burst you know. Wach this space!

Not concerned about keeping any of our players thanks . In football players move all the time. Any we sell on will be for ENORMOUS fees which will easily fund any replacements we need. Together with the SKY money which will amount to around £70 mil next season I think we have a little less to worry about than your own grubby little (laughing stock) of a club. Thanks for your concern though..

I'm expecting Barker's pre match team talk to go something like this:- "Now then lads, as you and the fans are aware we are already known as the laughing stock of the south. Woof woof.
Hmm. Lauging stock you say? Sunderland 1 Southampton 0 out of the fa cup again West Ham 3 Southampton 1 Southampton 0 Liverpool 3 Thats one goal scored and 7 conceded. This a team that holds so many of our England stars!! :-0 Out of the cup and no points picked up in the league Scunthorpe 5 Portsmouth 1 Portsmouth 1 Accrington Stanley 0 Chesterfield 0 Portsmouth 0 Ok so 5 conceded and 2 scored.
You're not concerned about keeping any of your players? You better hope they can hold on to them. Your top class acadamy have been knocked out of the youth cup by Charlton Athletic. Your first team are out of the FA Cup (again) beaten by relegation threatend Sunderland and you've gone from top 3 top mid table in a short space of time. And your manager is not interested in Europa league!!! Who the hell is going to want to join up with a team that has no ambition other than sit in mid table of their league??? And you think we are the laughing stock? I would say your bubble has burst, and i would go for you lot in the bottom 3 next season.
And on the matter of concern. Take a look at the other posts on here. Seems most of you were very keen to watch Pompey last night!! Thank you for your support. There is after all only one team worth watching on the south coast :-)

Cheers x x
Actually there were probably quite a few Saints fans tuning in last night. Not out of any interest but purely for the amusement factor. They weren't disappointed. It was hugely funny. As you are trying to put us down for showing such amusement at your club I have to say that you seem to know more about our academy than I do. Perhaps you are a closet Saints fan really. As for your other comments they appear to be pure fantasy and unrealistic dreams. It's a very common illness amongst skunts. If you would like to take a quick look back at the transfer window there was no shortage of players willing to move to struggling clubs. Why? Wages and prestige. There may well be a south coast club struggling in the bottom 3 next season. In your dreams it will be us. In reality it is far more likely to be you. Happy dreams.
