FAWLEY AFC may lie second from bottom of the Sydenhams Wessex League – but they won’t go down!

That’s the verdict of their own manager Colin Lane and Dave Diaper, whose title chasing Sholing side got more than they possibly bargained for in Saturday’s 2-2 draw at Holbury.

Delighted Oilers manager Lane expects Fawley – a solitary point behind fellow strugglers Romsey with six games in hand – to quickly make up the deficit and start to climb the table.

“We were terrific against Sholing, but to be fair we’ve gone well in our last four unbeaten games and beat Blackfield & Langley in the process,” he smiled.

“After the performances we’ve put up recently I’m convinced we’ll stay up.”

But things don’t get any easier for Fawley, who rocked Sholing with two early strikes by Ben Murphy and Matt Vining at Holbury.

The Watersiders go to last season's runners-up Alresford Town tonight – the Magpies boasting a 12-match winning sequence stretching back to mid-December when Sholing beat them 3-2.

Sholing boss Dave Diaper agrees with Lane that Fawley won’t be relegated.

“They’re a young, hard working team and certainly gave us a tough ride.

“They’ve having a good run at the moment and result will come their way, I’ve no doubt about that,” he said.
